How Kaleidoscope came about

One of the founding members of the Brighton Art Guild, Norma Gray, was a teacher in many respects, and she saw the need for members of the Guild to learn how to prepare their work and enter exhibitions and competitions, where art was juried in (selected by a juror), and not all pieces were selected.

Back then everything was on paper, entry form, payment checks, etc.  It was not uncommon to have the artists deliver their piece to a designated place, the juror would select the pieces for the future show and the artists would return the same day to pick up their pieces

Kaleidoscope was created so that all members could experience how to enter, prepare their works for the exhibition.   After the exhibition was on display, the juror would award ribbons.  Most Jurors were asked to do a  "walk through" presentation where an explanation of the why that piece was awarded so that members could learn how to enhance their own future art.
