Administered by the Brighton Art Guild, the Norma Gray Gallery at the Brighton District Library present Art at the Library (AAL), a popular "Art in Public Places" program offered in cooperation with the Friends of the Brighton District Library.
The juried exhibition features two artists exhibiting together for six to eight weeks. The 2024 series will mark the 25th year for the AAL program. This venue was rededicated as the Norma Gray Gallery in December 2012 in honor of artist Norma Gray, one of the visionary founds of this exhibit as well as a founder of the Guild. Gallery Admission and Hours: Free access whenever Brighton District Library is open.
Eligibility:
Artists must be 18 years of age or older and a Michigan resident.
All work must be original and created solely by the artist. If work is created from photographs, they must be photographs taken by the artist
2D and 3D applications are encouraged. Artists may exhibit in consecutive years if medium/motif is obviously different in each year.
Entry Procedures:
Submit five images that represent a body of your work.
Enter title, medium, image size, and price for each piece; enter 0 (zero) for works not for sale. All entries must be jpeg files, and any subsequent art display installed must significantly match the entry images in subject, style, medium and/or motif. Accepted works that differ dramatically from the submitted images may be refused.
Entry Images:
Submit digital images in jpg or jpeg format less than 4MB labeled as LastName-ArtworkTitle.jpg.
Entry Fee:
Non-refundable fees of $30 for non-members
$20 for Brighton Art Guild members
Notification of Acceptance: Artists will be notified by email.
Presentation Requirements:
Artist must transport and install their own art work. Guild members will direct and assist onsite. Artists must dismantle their own exhibition. No Shipments are accepted.
Upon intake, each work must be identified with the artist's name, title, medium and price. The Guild will provide Gallery Cards.
If juried into the AAL program, artists must install artwork according to AAL display criteria for a quality presentation. Artwork must in excellent condition, ready for secure installation, and properly labeled before delivery. All 2D work must be framed and ready for hanging with hooks and a wire. Sawtooth hangers are not accepted. Canvases may be framed, wrapped or have painted sides. Unsuitably prepared, hazardous, unstable, or extremely fragile work will be declined.

All works remain on display until the close of the exhibition.
Sales:
Art may be for sale or not for sale. All sales are coordinated by AAL staff.
A 20% commission for Guild members and 30% for non-members is taken, then divided between the Brighton Art Guild and Friends of the Library of the Brighton District Library to subsidize the costs of this program. Sales tax is not collected from the customer and is the responsibility of the artist.
