More Than Meets the Eye

_Mike Ewing,  Brighton Art Guild Member

In the 15 years my  wife and I have lived in the Brighton area, one of the most pleasant and  personally rewarding opportunities I have discovered is membership in the  Brighton Art Guild. Much more than a group of people who share a common interest  in creating objects of art, this is an association of encouraging friends  helping one another along in their creative journeys together.  As well, non-artists support the Guild and  donate their talents in other fields.

When my wife and I  first relocated here, we quickly fell in love with this charming semi-rural  Michigan community. Our move was in the fall as I recall, and the beauty of the  crisp cool autumn breezes flowing across the Mill Pond simply captured our  hearts straightaway. That, and the warm friendliness of the general population,  convinced us that we were home.  Discovering the benefits of the Brighton Art Guild added much to this good feeling.

Many of the guild  members, including myself, are relative beginners in their medium, while others  produce works of professional quality.  Relative skill sets are unimportant  within the Art Guild. Classes and friend-to-friend assistance are available  throughout the organization just for the asking. Technical and procedural advice  for a wide variety of art abounds at every meeting. It really does seem that  every type of 2D and 3D media which I have ever heard of, and some I had not,  are represented at the Guild meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at  6:30 p.m. at the welcoming and wonderful Brighton District  Library.

One of the more  difficult tasks for the artist at any level is finding places to display their work. The Guild works closely year-round with a number of local business and  community organizations to provide public space for artist members to both  display and offer their works for sale. There are only small fees charged to  exhibit and when an object is sold.

I would like to  invite everyone in Brighton and throughout the region, whether you are an artist  or just interested in art, to join in and support the Brighton Art Guild.  Membership is a bargain…especially when the exchange of knowledge and friendship  one receives in return is virtually priceless.
