2023

 Brighton with Art 2023

Juror's Statement on the Exhibit

Please let all of the artists know that I spent many hours trying to decide on the finals
as there was so much wonderful work to choose from.
My decisions were based on the expertise in execution of the medium and
as with all artists/jurors, what resonated with my aesthetics.

**S. Kay Young**
S. Kay Young Photography, L.L.C.

First Place

Soaking it All In, Tricia Hampo

Cold Wax and Oil, 16x16, NFS

Beautiful composition, a peaceful innocence.  It made me to ponder what she is looking toward, I wanted to dive into the piece with here.  Loved the abstract mountains.

Picture
Second Place

Follow Fall, Linda Boyle

Oil Impasto, 20x10, $375

The texture of the paint was inviting me into the scene and I placed myself on that path.  Beautifully executed, an earthly delight.

Picture
3rd Place

Fae Forest, Emily Meredith

Acrylic on Canvas, 16x20, NFS

Whimsical, delightful.  The night sky to the left is welcoming, the trees are a storybook winter joy. It gifted me with a big smile.

Juror Award

Sa Majeste, Timothy Smith

Oil on Panel, 20x16, NFS

The artist brought nobility to this beautiful rooster.  It brought to mind my many visits to my Grandpas house in Tennessee and being fascinated by how stunning and proud the roosters were.  The mountains and the sky took me back to all the other mountain relatives we stayed with, they all had fowl.  Lovely piece.

Honorable Mention

Picture
Flowers in a Gold Vase, Bob Wesley
Acrylic, 20x20, $225

Happy, pinwheel flowers.  Loved the gold vase.

Picture
The Transition, Tamara Nottingham
Acrylic on Canvas, 24x48, $1,000

The moonlight is glorious, I could hear the crunch of the snow.  The execution is so inviting, love the shadows

Picture
Portal to a New World, Dean Rogers
Colored Pencil, 26x21, NFS

An AMAZING control of the medium.  It’s magical, a modern day Dorthy.

Picture
Contemplation of Flight, Karen Monroe
Oil, 29x35, $2,000

Projects an old Hollywood type of romance.  Well executed control of the medium, a beautiful painting.

Picture
Vacuous, Pamela Day
Oxide-stained clay, found objects, 12x9, NFS

I appreciate the found object aspect of the piece.  The headless bust is fascinatingly replicating a cavity in a tree to house the key that the trickster Raven/Crow is dangling in it's beak. Delightful, it made me chortle.
