The Juror:  Kathleen Shannon Hiner is a Colorado native currently living in Saline, Michigan. Her art focuses primarily on the figure, but recently she has been working in a more abstract style with watercolor and oils on Yupo paper. Yupo is a smooth, erasable, synthetic paper accommodating several types of media, as well as being a suitable surface for printmaking processes. It produces great textural effects, along with allowing color to stay vibrant due to the paint laying on the surface of the paper. This lends itself well with the way Kathy works-expressively and gestural, and with vibrant colors, evoking strong mood and emotion.
Kathy received a BFA from Metropolitan State College of Denver and an MA in education from the University of Colorado. She began studying watercolor at the Art Student’s League of Denver. Kathy spent several years as an art educator in Colorado and Michigan before moving to the Ann Arbor area where she is now working as an artist.
