High School Scholarship for the Visual Arts

The Brighton Art Guild is pleased to announce a call for applications for the 2010 Brighton Art Guild's Scholarship for the Visual Arts. This $200 scholarship, to support the creative development of a young Livingston County artist, will be competitively awarded based upon an applicant's merit and goals in the visual arts. There is no cost to apply.

Eligibility

All high school students ages 14-18 who are residents of Livingston County are eligible. Scholarship recipient(s) from the previous calendar year will not be considered.

Requirements

Students are asked to submit a completed scholarship application, three to five artwork samples (photo prints or jpgs), an artist's statement, and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for their notification letter.

Submitting Artwork Samples

Artwork samples may be submitted by color photo prints (4"x6" or larger) or jpg files on CD (150 dpi, with one of the dimensions being at least 5").

Write your name and the artwork title, medium and dimensions on the back of each photo print. Or, if submitting jpg files on a CD, write your name on the CD and include a list of each artworks' file name, title, medium and dimensions.

If you would like your photo prints or CD returned, the self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE) you include must be a mailer large enough to hold your entries, and must have the appropriate postage stamps for the size/weight. The Guild is not responsible for returning entries if no mailer is provided.

Digital Photo Assistance

The Guild is happy to offer free assistance to any student needing digital photos taken of their artwork entries. Call Carole McGeehan at 810-229-2132 before April 30 to schedule a photo session.

Artist's Statement

Your artist's statement should be at least 50 words, and should include why you make your art, how you make it, what it's made of, what your art means to you and what your goals are for the next year.

Notifications

Applicants will receive notifications on/by May 21. The chosen 2010 scholarship recipient will be invited, along with his/her parents or legal guardians, to attend the opening reception of the Guild's annual Kaleidoscope on Main exhibition, being held Saturday, June 5, for the formal scholarship award presentation.
