Art at the Library Benefits Community
On behalf of the Brighton Art Guild, artist Peggy N. Brewer as the 2009 Coordinator of the Art at the Library program presented a check for $344 to Kelly Raskauskas, president of the Friends of the Brighton District Library. The check represented a 10 percent commission on the 2009 artwork sold through the program, which has had over $38,500 in sales since it began in 1989.
In support of the Art at the Library program, the Friends returned to the check to the Guild as a donation toward a new display system which was installed at the library late last year. "By using the commissions and fees collected in 2009, all costs for the hanging system were covered," Brewer said. "Both in our art and operations, we had a very successful year."
Art at the Library, now in its second decade as an art in public places program, brings artists from throughout the region to display at the library through the efforts of the Brighton Art Guild. Proceeds benefit the library, Friends and the Guild.
